Community Life
And wherever they are, or in whatever situation they are in, they should diligently and fervently show reverence and honor to one another. They should also foster unity and communion with all the members of the Franciscan family. (Rule, 3)
Our religious life is essentially a life of community. We know that attainment of a living spiritual community, with Christ as the center, must be rooted in the Holy Spirit.
Sustained by this faith and united by the same Profession to a consecrated life, we endeavor to become ever more truly a community. As a community in the Church, we see our primary task as the service of others.
Living according to the Gospel made St. Francis a brother to his brothers We want to be sisters to each other, bearing one another’s peculiarities and weaknesses, showing respect and kindness to each other, and creating a sisterly atmosphere warm with joy and friendliness.
When each Sister devotes her energy and talents to the service of the entire community, she fosters both the growth of the community and her own personal vocation.
We value the variety of natural talents and the manifold spiritual gifts among us as God-given treasures. In the unity of the Spirit, this variety makes our serves more spiritually effective.
The community supports the individual Sister, and each individual member must support the community. We are responsible for each other in maintaining faithfulness to our life according to the Gospel, and we mutually encourage and support one another on our way to God.
United with each other in the service of Christ, it is possible to achieve a sisterly community which contributes essentially to a full life. By our sincere kindness to all who are with us and by our hospitality we will make visible the Presence of Christ in our communities.
In this way our communities will witness to the vitality of the Gospel and the Church.
Each Sister belongs to a specific convent. A convent is a group of Sisters who form community through living our common life and participating in common prayer.
